A comprehensive college-wide approach to making the campus environmentally sustainable, focusing on energy conservation and waste management.
Objectives
1. To reduce the carbon footprint of the institution.
2. To promote awareness about environmental conservation among students and staff.
3. To implement effective solid and liquid waste management systems.
The Context
With the growing threat of climate change, educational institutions must lead by example. The college recognized the need to transition towards eco-friendly operations and instill green habits in the younger generation.
The Practice / Implementation
1. Installation of solar panels on major academic blocks.
2. Complete ban on single-use plastics within the campus.
3. Establishment of a vermicomposting unit for organic waste.
4. Transitioned to energy-efficient LED lighting across all facilities.
Evidence of Success
1. 35% reduction in monthly electricity consumption.
2. Successful conversion of 100% of organic canteen waste into manure for campus gardens.
3. Awarded the "Green Campus Certification" by the local municipal body.
