Institutional Best Practices

Community Digital Literacy Drive

Year: 2023

An extension program where student volunteers educate residents of nearby adopted villages on basic digital skills and financial literacy.

Objectives
1. To bridge the digital divide in rural areas surrounding the college.
2. To foster a sense of social responsibility among students.
3. To empower villagers with skills for online banking and government portals.
The Context
As essential services rapidly shifted online, residents in nearby rural communities struggled due to a lack of digital literacy. The institution saw an opportunity to serve the community while providing students with real-world social experience.
The Practice / Implementation
The NSS unit organized weekend camps in two adopted villages. Student volunteers conducted hands-on workshops using college-provided tablets, teaching locals how to use smartphones for UPI payments, agricultural information portals, and basic internet safety.
Evidence of Success
1. Over 500 villagers successfully trained in digital transactions.
2. 50+ students received community service certificates.
3. Enhanced institutional reputation and stronger ties with local communities.

Student-Faculty Mentorship Program

Year: 2022

A dedicated mentorship framework where faculty members provide personalized academic and psychological support to a designated group of students.

Objectives
1. To bridge the communication gap between students and teachers.
2. To identify and assist slow learners while encouraging advanced learners.
3. To reduce dropout rates and improve overall academic performance.
The Context
Students arriving from diverse socio-economic backgrounds often face difficulties adjusting to higher education. A personalized support system was required to address their unique academic and emotional challenges.
The Practice / Implementation
Each faculty member is assigned a group of 15-20 students (mentees) for their entire academic duration. Mentors conduct scheduled monthly meetings, maintain progress records, and offer career counseling. A dedicated grievance cell works in tandem with the mentors.
Evidence of Success
1. Noticeable improvement in student attendance and class participation.
2. Student dropout rate decreased by 12% over two years.
3. Highly positive feedback in annual student satisfaction surveys.

Green Campus and Sustainability Initiative

Year: 2021

A comprehensive college-wide approach to making the campus environmentally sustainable, focusing on energy conservation and waste management.

Objectives
1. To reduce the carbon footprint of the institution.
2. To promote awareness about environmental conservation among students and staff.
3. To implement effective solid and liquid waste management systems.
The Context
With the growing threat of climate change, educational institutions must lead by example. The college recognized the need to transition towards eco-friendly operations and instill green habits in the younger generation.
The Practice / Implementation
1. Installation of solar panels on major academic blocks.
2. Complete ban on single-use plastics within the campus.
3. Establishment of a vermicomposting unit for organic waste.
4. Transitioned to energy-efficient LED lighting across all facilities.
Evidence of Success
1. 35% reduction in monthly electricity consumption.
2. Successful conversion of 100% of organic canteen waste into manure for campus gardens.
3. Awarded the "Green Campus Certification" by the local municipal body.
